Cable outage leaves many without service

A fiber cut left approximately 7,200 Charter Communications customers in the Park Hills, Leadington, Leadwood, Bonne Terre and Desloge areas without service Monday.

A dump truck driver leaving a construction site with the truck’s bed in the upright position caused a cut in communications fiber cable.

According to reports, the dump truck driver was leaving a construction site on Hwy. 67, just north of Farmington, about 1:45 p.m., when the upright bed of the truck hit a Charter fiber cable on the site.

Charter technicians were dispatched and worked to restore service to customers. Due to the severity of the cut, Charter estimated services would be restored about 8 p.m. Monday. Many customers, however, did not have service until about 10 p.m.
