Construction begins on detention facility
Construction will begin this month on the $6.7 million Jefferson County Juvenile Detention/Treatment Facility on Goldfinch Lane in Hillsboro.
The facility will include conference and meeting rooms and the building is designed so it can be extended in the future.
Officials say it will take about one year to complete the modular structure.
Plans are also under way for the new sheriff/juvenile administration building.
The juvenile facility is part of a $20 million comprehensive plan that includes courthouse and jail renovations and a new administration building for the sheriff and juvenile offices. Funding for the project includes a $9.6 million settlement from Isle of Capri Casinos.
