Accident injures students in parking lot
FARMINGTON — Two students were sent to the emergency room after being struck by a vehicle on a parking lot at Farmington High School this morning.
Chief of Police Rick Baker said the students, both age 16, were walking across the parking lot at the corner of Westgate and Black Knight Drive — commonly known as the Junior Parking Lot — when they were hit.
One students sustained minor to moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Parkland South. The second student was taken by private conveyance to be checked out, Baker added.
The accident happened at about 7:51 a.m. Reports show the students were struck by a 2004 Dodge Ram being driven by 35-year-old Christine Turner.
Baker said a sizable portion of accidents the department works each year occur on parking lots. In most instances, he adds, the problem is inattention while backing up, or driving too fast.
