Farmington clinches MAAA girls tennis title
POTOSI — The Farmington girls tennis team clinched the MAAA Conference title outright on Monday with a 9-0 sweep over Potosi.
The three ranking singles matches all featured 8-4 results with Kaitlyn Crocker besting Katherine Nickelson, Courtney Jensen defeating Sarah Partney, and Alicia Murray over Allison Bonney.
Megan Politte posted the lone shutout of the day against Melissa McGuire. Jennifer May downed Kelsey Fitzwater and Heather Lewis topped Olivia Kwan by scores on 8-2.
Jensen and Murray picked up an 8-2 doubles win, and Politte teamed with Ali Goettelmann for a victory by the same margin. Crocker and May won the closest match of the meet, 9-7.
Farmington (8-3) and Potosi (2-5) will battle again today in the conference finale.
Fredericktown 5, Arcadia Valley 2
FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown Lady Cats swept four singles matches on Monday for a 5-2 conference win over Arcadia Valley.
Courtney Kemp defeated Lacee Cofer and Asha Ayyagari topped Jayne Rey via 8-0 shutouts for Fredericktown (6-2). Rachel Page was an 8-1 winner over Kelly Besemer, and Samantha Pinkley edged Alyssa Waddell 8-3.
Cofer and Waddell put Arcadia Valley on the scoreboard with an 8-5 doubles win over Ayyagari and Pinkley. The Lady Tigers also received a No. 3 doubles forfeit.
Kemp and Page joined forces for an 8-0 triumph over Besemer and Rey.
FALL BASEBALL
West County 20, Bunker 5
BUNKER — Trevor Kean recorded six strikeouts over two strong innings, and West County remained unbeaten in fall baseball action on Monday with a 20-5 victory at Bunker.
Cody Watson collected seven RBI and belted two home runs while going 3-for-3. Alex Sutton also homered with two hits, and Billy Smith added a three-run shot for the Bulldogs (13-0).
Ethan Sitton finished 3-for-5 with a RBI, and Coty Shannon went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Terry Moore and Jake Gidden also collected two hits apiece.
