Visitor arrested at prison
BONNE TERRE — A person visiting an inmate at the prison in Bonne Terre Friday was arrested, according to the Department of Corrections.
Department of Corrections Spokesperson Brian Hauswirth said staff observed “suspicious activity” in a visiting room at the prison. The staff contacted the Bonne Terre Police Department which later arrested the visitor.
At press time, sources would not elaborate on the arrest.
However, Hauswirth said this highlights their efforts to prevent narcotics from entering the prison. He said the visiting areas have to be watched carefully for drug activities.
Hauswirth said the inmate, who was being visited, was placed in an administrative segregation unit pending an investigation.
