County has animal control facility

Ste. Genevieve County now has an animal control facility. It’s adjacent to the county jail and was paid for by the half-cent law enforcement sales tax that was put on the ballot in November of 2006. In addition to the facility, the Ste. Genevieve Sheriff’s Department now has an officer assigned to animal control activities.

The new structure is state-of-the-art and is a USDA-permitted animal control facility. With the department’s new capability it will respond to calls of stray animals, animals at large, animals that have been dumped within the county boundaries, situations such as dog bites and animal endangerment or abuse.

The county animal control will also handle animal cases in the City of Ste. Genevieve, which previously had its own animal control.
