Bonne Terre inmate treated

A helicopter landed at the Eastern Reception Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre Saturday afternoon to take an inmate for emergency medical treatment.

Corrections officials are investigating the cause of the injury.

“It does not appear to have been the result of an altercation,” said Brian Hauswirth, spokesman for the Missouri Department of Corrections. “But anytime you have someone injured, the Inspector General’s office is notified and an investigation is conducted.”

Hauswirth said no one else was hurt and the prison was not placed on lockdown. The helicopter landed next to the facility on Hwy. K about 1 p.m. and the inmate was taken to a St. Louis hospital.

Hauswirth confirms the inmate’s injuries required immediate medical treatment, but could not release his name or further details on his condition.
