Warriors, Yankees and Steamers triumph in close contests

BONNE TERRE — In non-league action, the Bonne Terre Warriors,  hosted the Herculaneum Bulls, an 18-under prospect team, on Wednesday and managed to hold on for a 2-1 win.

Derek Emily scored the Warriors first run by stealing home on a  throw by the catcher to second base. Brad Wright scored run No. 2  after reaching second on a double and being driven in on a single by Levi Barton.

With the double, Wright was 2-3 in the game. Jordan Thompson, Matt Robinson, Sam Hulsey, Emily and Barton had one single each.

Chad Smith pitched the win in the seven-inning game, striking out five and allowing only three hits by the Bulls.

The Warriors, a Senior American Legion team, is now 9-3 and they will play next at Anheuser Busch in St. Louis.

Yankees 7, Steamers 5

DESLOGE — The Desloge Yankees (12-1) bounced back from their first loss to pick up another win, defeating the Valley Steamers 7-5. L.J. Weible was on his game from the mound with eight strike-outs to pick up the win. The Yankees scored five runs in the second inning to hold the lead all the way.

Austin Tounsand hit the ball over the fence for a home run. Wyatt Compton hit a triple, Dyllon Parmley hit a double, and Travis Rion had two singles. Seth Tiefenauer, Jamison Strange and Anthony Breakfield all hit singles for the Yankees.

Austin Wigger hit a triple for the Steamers. Nick Province hit a single and a double, Peter Vance had two singles and Clayton Akers had one single.

Hornets 6, Knights 5

POTOSI — The Potosi Hornets (9-3) kept themselves in the hunt for second place in the American Division with a 6-5 win over the second-place Farmington Knights (10-3) on Wednesday.

Lane Mercille was the winning pitcher by striking out 10 batters in six innings. The Hornets led the game until the Knights tied it up in the fourth inning and then took the lead 5-4 in the top of the fifth. Potosi answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning and then hung on to close things out in the sixth.

Austin Cooley was 3-3 at the plate, and Deaven Coleman was 2-2. Mercille hit a triple, and Colby Eckhoff and Clint Cook both hit singles.

Eagles 12, Angels 6

DOE RUN — The Leadwood Eagles improved their record above .500 with a 12-6 win over the Farmington Angels. Clayon Brinkley was the winning pitcher with a two-hit game.

Zach Hampton hit a two-run homer and Kyle Coleman hit a solo shot for the Eagles. Isaak Vinson hit a single and a triple, Chris Hewitt and Brinkley had two singles each.

Steven Barlow, Hampton, Tyler Busch, Tyler Bohnenkamp, and Paul Massey had one single each. Tristan Hastings and Payton Friend both hit triples, and Friend and Brendan Dickerson had one single each.
