Warriors take command of Junior Legion division
STE. GENEVIEVE — Joey Winckel delivered a pivotal two-run single in the fourth inning on Tuesday night, and the Bonne Terre Warriors defeated Ste. Genevieve 3-1 in a Junior American Legion showdown at Yanks Field.
The victory gave the Warriors (16-4) an inside track to the regular season title and top seed for the upcoming district tournament with an 8-2 league record. Bonne Terre can clinch with a win over either Rock Memorial on Thursday or House Springs on Sunday.
Winckel finished with two hits on the night, and also caught two runners stealing from his catcher position. Consecutive walks to Tanner Glore and Landon Young preceded the decisive hit by Winckel in the fourth.
Jordan Thompson earned the win on the mound with three strikeouts and five hits allowed over 5 2/3 innings. Jake Cavins obtained the final four outs to notch the save.
The Warriors opened the scoring in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Thompson after Chad Smith and Matt Robinson each singled. Levi Barton and Thompson also picked up singles during the action.
Cole Bieser collected two hits and Michael Greminger struck out seven in the complete-game loss for Ste. Genevieve, which finished 9-3 in division play with two of those losses coming to the Warriors.

Cubs 22, Chargers 4
IRONTON — The North County Cubs improved to 8-4 on the Junior Babe Ruth season with an offensive eruption on Tuesday night, defeating the Arcadia Valley Chargers 22-4 in Ironton.
Spencer Tiefenauer hit a two-run homer and added a double, while Dominic Eaton provided a double and single to pace the Cubs. Justin Ruby and Dylan Pipken also had doubles in the contest.
Derek Mitchell, Ryan Gibson, Eric Thompson, Brad Bess and Travis Riles all picked up singles in the victory. Pitchers Ruby, Eaton and Gibson combined for a one-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Richard Tedford singled for the Chargers.
