Vietnam wall replica returning
A traveling replica of The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall will make an encore appearance at Walther Park in October.
“The Wall,” which will make its appearance Oct. 9-12, is a traveling memorial to the more than 58,000 soldiers killed or reported missing during the Vietnam War. It is a four-fifths replica of the national monument in Washington, D.C., that stands around eight feet tall and has the names of every soldier lost in Vietnam.
The memorial made its first Jefferson County appearance in 2006 at West City Park in Festus, then was brought to De Soto during the week of May 8. Heavy downpours, high winds and cool weather put a damper on the many events planned during the four days it was there.
