Traveling Wall returns
The Vietnam Veterans Traveling Wall is returning to the area Oct. 9, 10, 11 and 12 and will be open for public viewing those days from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The public is invited to attend and view the wall, which will arrive Oct. 8. The Wall Procession will meet at the Antique Mall at 13208 Tesson Ferry Road at 6 p.m. and leave for De Soto at 6:30 p.m.
Arrival will be at 7 p.m., traveling along Main Street to Amvets Post #48. Refreshments and music will be available.
The wall will be assembled early Thursday morning and computers will be open at 10 a.m. Thereafter, computers open at 8 a.m. each day and close at 8 p.m.
There will also be music and singing in the park each day and Veterans and emergency personnel will gather.
Thursday’s dinner is at 7 p.m. at VFW Post #1831 with music after 8 p.m.
Friday it is Student Participation Day. Veterans and Emergency personnel will be on hand and there will be music and singing as well. Amvets Post #48 will have steak night from 5 until 8 p.m., with music afterward.
Saturday starts with a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge #119 on Boyd and Third Street. A motorcycle ride is planned, with a 1:45 p.m. arrival at Walther Park. A veterans ceremony begins at 2 p.m. and Chambers of Commerce will have barbecue from noon until 4 p.m. in Walther park.
Sunday, there is a whole hog sausage dinner from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Knights of Columbus #1185 in De Soto. At 3 p.m., there is a Ministerial Alliance Program and at 6 p.m. the event will close with a prayer.
The computers and wall itself will remain open until 8 p.m.
