FHS Lady Cat Softball Players Receive Post Season Honors
Four members of the Fredericktown High School Lady Cat Softball team have earned post season honors. Senior Brianna Denman, daughter of Chad and Betsy Denman was selected MAAA 2nd Team All Conference and Class 3 – Division1 First Team All District. Denman was a three year varsity starter for the softball team. During her softball career she started varsity games at three positions spending most of her defensive time at first base. After a slow start at the plate in the 2008 season, Denman came on strong in the final 11 games batting over .375 during the last half of the season. She led the team with six doubles and had the lowest strikeout percentage on the varsity squad. Denman recorded only two defensive errors during her senior season.
FHS junior Miriah Korokis has been selected both 1st Team All Conference and 1st Team all District this season. Miriah is the daughter of Ross and Kelly Korokis. Korokis led the Lady Cat softball team in five offensive categories including average .370, on base percentage, slugging percentage, total hits, triples, and RBI’s. As a three year varsity starter Korokis has played first base and catcher. She improved her batting average by 124 points since her sophomore season.
Junior Lady Cat Alyssa Allgier received honors for both 1st Team All Conference and 1st Team All District. Alyssa is the daughter of Artie and Vicki Allgier. Alyssa is a three year varsity starter for the Lady Cats. After two years as an outstanding defensive center fielder Alyssa made the transition to shortstop and continued her excellent level of play. She was recognized by area coaches for her defensive and offensive skills. Alyssa led the team in runs scored and had three inside the park home runs this season.
Senior Lady Cat Chelsey McDowell received 2nd Team All Conference and All District Honorable Mention honors. Chelsey is the daughter of John McDowell and Cathy McDowell. Chelsey has anchored down the left field position for the past three seasons. She is credited for at least two game saving catches in her career and numerous outstanding defensive plays. Chelsey finished her softball career as an elite member of the “300 Club” with a career varsity batting average of .301.
