Fredericktown Optimist Club
At their November meeting the Fredericktown Optimist Club inducted 6 new members. Andrew Tarry, Paula Tarry, Lisa Bradford, Mindy Dunnigan, Audra Bastie, and Kyle Bastie.
The Fredericktown Optimist Club was organized September 24, 1990 with twenty-eight charter members.
The local club is affiliated with Optimist International which is an organization establised primarily for the betterment of youth.
Don Sievers of Jackson, Missouri is Optimist International President for 20008-2009. Don, along with Charles Wiles and Walt Pierce of the Jackson Optimist Club, were instrumental in the organization of the Fredericktown club.
Two times since the local club has been organized, it has accomplished the honor of being a “Distinguished Club” within Optimist International. These were the years of 1992-1993 and 1997-1998.
There are numerous youth activities in which the Fredericktown Area Club has participated over the years. The 2 major ones are the Easter egg hunt and soccer program. The soccer program began in 1991 and the Easter egg hunt in 1992, and have been annual events eversince.
Other activities have included recognizing a “youth of the month”, essay and oral competitions, bicycle safety program, honoring local law enforcement, sponsoring azalea queen candidates, Christmas gifts and baskets, and donations to various children’s activities in Madison County.
