MAC business education chairman receives award
Roger McMillian, Mineral Area College associate professor and Business Education Department chairman, recently received the North Central Business Education Association “Teacher of the Year” Award for outstanding contributions to business education by a post-secondary business teacher.
The award was presented to McMillian at the Michigan Business Education Association/North Central Business Education Association Fall Convention held at DeVos Place Convention Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.
The award recognizes teachers who have accumulated significant accomplishments and demonstrated outstanding leadership in programs and activities promoting community involvement. Award recipients must have made significant contributions toward training, motivating, and inspiring their peers and students to become involved in programs and projects that benefit their communities.
McMillian has worked at MAC since 1997. He said he believes educators have the ability to change lives both today and tomorrow. “It’s this belief which provides the motivation behind my classroom instruction,” he said. “I believe in business education and want all students to benefit from this area of study as either a career goal or as a means of reaching goals.”
McMillian teaches CISCO Internetworking II/III/IV, Applied Accounting I/II, Fundamentals of UNIX, and Entrepreneurship. He also serves as the chairman of the Business Education Department at the community college in Park Hills.
The North Central Business Education Association represents an eight-state region of the National Business Education Association and includes business educators from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
