Donations to Salvation Army down from 2007

The Madison County Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign is still in operation. As on Monday, December 22, 2008, $7,808.03 has been collected according to Chapter Director Sharron Tinnin.  The total did not include donations in the red kettles as yet.

The goal this year is $10,000. In 2007, the Salvation Army raised $8,949 in donations.

Eighty five percent of the money raised by the Salvation Army in Madison County stays in the county to help local people in a time of need according to Tinnin. The remaining fifteen percent goes to the national campaign, which can also be used by the county if a major disaster hits.

The Salvation Army has responded to local disasters in Madison County including floods and tornados. They have helped stranded motorists, children who needed a coat or other items of clothing, and provided emergency food or shelter. Helping the Madison County Salvation Army is truly helping a neighbor.
