Blackcat Basketball
The Blackcats basketball team lost to Notre Dame, 94-45, Tuesday, January 6, in Cape Girardeau.
After making seven baskets and scoring 17 points in the first quarter, the baskets were hard to come by for the Cats. The Bulldogs defense tightened up, and FHS had just eight more baskets in the rest of the game.
Jake Sikes led the Cats with 15 points. Tyler Hagy had ten, Codee Stamp had nine, Alex Gibbs had five, and Luke Cureton, Justin Walls, and Ryan Gifford scored two points, each.
Friday night, the Cats hosted the Ste. Genevieve Dragons. The Dragons shot extremely well, and opened MAAA Large-School division play with a 78-59 victory over the Cats.
Ste. Genevieve (8-3) rejumped to a big lead early, leading by as many as 26 points, before the first quarter ended at 30-6. The Blackcats trimmed the deficit to 41-29 at halftime with 23 second-quarter points.
Jake Sikes netted 16 points and Ryan Gifford had 12 for Fredericktown. Jacob Farmer chipped in nine points and Tyler Hagy scored eight. Luke Cureton had seven, Tanner Swope had four, and Justin Walls had three. Sikes and Stamp had six rebounds, each, and Alex Gibbs led with four assists.
Kory Faulkner paced the Dragons with 29 points and six rebounds.
