Warriors utilize depth for conference win

BISMARCK — Senior guard Michael Rozier tallied 18 points and six rebounds on Tuesday night, and the Valle boys basketball team secured a 48-36 victory over Bismarck in MAAA Small-School division action.

The Warriors received significant minutes from 13 different players on their deeper roster, and forced 26 turnovers to record consecutive wins for the first time this season.

Valle (4-9) finished a perfect 9-for-9 from the line and seized control of the contest with a 16-4 spurt approaching halftime after both clubs struggled to protect the ball in the first quarter.

Jeremy Abts and Ryan Hermann scored inside on offensive rebounds during the decisive run, and Kellen Bader increased the Valle lead to double figures with a three-pointer from the right wing.

Cody Goodson and Thomas McLain finished with eight rebounds each, and both crashed the boards for putbacks during the second period, but the Indians still trailed 29-18 at intermission.

Rozier produced the Warriors’ largest margin of 40-23 with a pair of open triples in the third quarter before Bismarck countered with a 7-0 run.

Goodson connected on a baby hook with 6:34 remaining to bring the hosts within 42-34, but their next possession resulted in a key turnover that Adam Oberle converted into an uncontested layup.

Bismarck (1-9) missed seven of its final eight shots from the field and remained winless in league play. Goodson paced the Indians with 11 points, while McLain chipped in eight and Alex Politte added seven.

Valle delivered the early offensive highlight when Stephen Bauman caught and finished a perfect backdoor lob from Rozier.
