Tuesday’s high school basketball roundup

ARCADIA — The Arcadia Valley Tigers couldn’t miss in the first half of their conference game with the Bismarck Indians scoring 62 points in the first half alone to post a 97-41 final score.

The Tigers (12-4) had their long-range zeroed in as they made seven three-pointers in the first quarter. Twelve Tigers scored in the game with five in double figures.

Chris Robbs led the way with 19 points, Blake Walker had 16, Eric Lindsey and Brock Walker scored 13 each and Chris Spitzmiller had 11. Spitzmiller and Robbs made three three-pointers each.

Cody Goodson scored led Bismarck (1-10) with 12 points, and the Indians outscored the Tigers in the fourth quarter 14-2.

Arcadia Valley (6-0 MAAA) is off until Saturday when they will travel to West County (4-0 MAAA) in a conference showdown. Bismarck will travel to Valley this evening for a make-up game.

Potosi 51, Union 32

UNION — The Potosi Trojans took the early lead and saw it grow  as the game progressed to eventually a 51-32 win over the Union Wildcats on Tuesday. The Trojans won all four quarters.

Tyler Shepard led Potosi (7-10) in scoring 14 points, Hunter Belfield and Landon Young each had nine. Malcolm Stanley scored 20 points to lead Union (5-9) in scoring.

Valley 80, Kingston 62

CADET — Logan Midgett lit things up for the Valley Vikings to score 38 points in their 80-62 win over the Kingston Cougars. Midgett had plenty of help with A.J. Pierce scoring 18, Stanley Stickland scoring 16, and Jacob Kearns scoring 12.

Kingston’s Zach Holmes led the Cougars with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Brad Merseal had 11 points, and Justin West scored 11 along with making eight steals.

Valley (2-7) will host Bismarck this evening, and  Kingston (2-8) will host Arcadia Valley on Tuesday.

South Iron 61, Fredericktown 45

FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown Blackcats hung close to the 11-1 South Iron Panthers for one half of play, but the Panthers blew the game wide open in the third quarter to capture their 12th win by a score of 61-45.

The still winless Blackcats were only down by five at the half, but South Iron, led in scoring by James Cornell with 14 points, Cody Smith with 13 and Will Sutton with 10, crunched out a 23-8 third quarter to coast in for the win.

 Jacob Sikes led Fredericktown with 12 points and Tanner Swope and Tyler Hagy each had eight. The Blackcats will seek their first win on Friday when they will host the Potosi Trojans in a conference game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Potosi 52, Festus 37

POTOSI — The Potosi Lady Trojans also picked up a win for their school on Tuesday with a 52-37 win over the Festus Lady Tigers.

Ashley Thompson scored 15 points and Madison Smith scored 12 to pace the Lady Trojans as they led nearly the entire game without being threatened by the visiting team.

Potosi moved above the .500 mark after falling to Lesterville on Monday. Next up for the Lady Trojans is a conference visit by North County on Thursday.
