Mineral Area pulls off doubleheader win over Moberly
PARK HILLS — The Mineral Area Cardinals completed a sweep of the college’s two games with Moberly on Saturday with both games being decided by exactly 20 points. The men followed up the women’s 65-45 win with a 77-57 win of their own (see Saturday’s paper or go to dailyjournalonline.com for the Lady Cardinals game).
The Cardinals (12-10) gained an early 8-5 lead and they did not relinquish it the rest of the way. Gerald Fulton and Jeremy Felton had the hot hands for the Cardinals with 30 of MAC’s 43 points between them. Fulton scored 18 of his game’s 20 points in the first half, and Felton had 12 and would go on to finish with 17.
Moberly (5-14) had plenty of chances as the Greyhounds dominated the offensive boards only to give up the basketball eventually due to missed shots. Moberly put up 24 more shots in the game than the Cardinals did.
Even though the Cardinals cooled down a little in the second half, Moberly’s poor shooting gave a little threat of a comeback. Carlton Guyton helped make sure of that with 10 of his 12 points coming in the second half.
Mineral Area will host No. 8 ranked Southeastern Iowa on Tuesday.
