Hartwick gets three years for animal abuse

An Ironton man will be completing a long-term substance abuse treatment program after pleading guilty to dragging a horse.

Tony Hartwick, 43, of rural Ironton, was sentenced to three years in prison for animal abuse and second-degree assault, but the judge will release him on probation after he completes a long-term treatment program.

Hartwick was charged with felony animal abuse in July after he dragged a horse behind an ATV. The horse was handed over to the Missouri Humane Society for veterinary care and rehabilitation and has since been given up for adoption.

Hartwick was charged with second-degree assault in September after an incident not related to the animal abuse charge.
