Number of farms increase

The number of farms has increased in Ste. Genevieve County, according to the latest Agriculture Census. The census, released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, showed the number of farms has increased since the last census, conducted five years earlier.

In 2002 the census showed 677 farms and in 2007 the census showed 717 farms. In 1997, 631 farms were reported.

The average size of the farms has decreased. In 2002 the average was 272 acres while in 2007 the average was 263 acres.
