North County Project Graduation sponsors Donkey Basketball
The Hoof Stompers and the Buckaroos, the Muleskinners and the Tail Twisters will meet for a Donkey Basketball tournament benefiting North County’s Project Graduation at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Donkey Basketball is played with four donkeys and four riders on each team. The donkeys were provided by Buckeye Donkey Ball of MT. Sterling, Ohio and know their way around the basketball court.
The donkeys include Beatle Bomb, Super Stupid, Elvis, Rigor Mortis, Thunder Ball, Snuffy, Kilroy and the world famous “Honey Pot,” described in promotional literature as “400 pounds of pure dynamite, rough and tough and hard to bluff … and hasn’t been ridden in years.”
There will be three games among the four local teams. The Hoof stompers meet the Buckaroos in the first game and then the Muleskinners collide with the Tail Twisters. The winners of the two matches then vie for the championship in what promoters say promises to be a wild and fun show.
Advance tickets are on sale for $6 at North County High School or by calling Ronda Buckner at 573-218-8055. Tickets at the door will be $8. Proceeds go to North County Project Graduation.
“Tickets have been selling very well,” said Ronda Buckner, ticket chairman. “In fact, everything looks great.”
