Knights take first at Potosi meet, Parkway Central wins girls

POTOSI — The Farmington Knights relay teams placed first in the 4×400 meter and 4×800 meter relay and second in the 4×200 to capture first place in the Potosi Invitational Track Meet held on Friday.

Altogether the Knights won four gold medals, three seconds and two thirds to outdistance second place Poplar Bluff by 15 points. Poplar Bluff won three firsts four seconds and one third.

Potosi placed third winning five events, and North County finished in fourth with four first-place finishes. Central and Windsor won one event each. (See first-place finishes, times, heights and distances below).

For the girls meet, Parkway Central won three of the four relays and two of the running events to claim first place, 30 points better than second place Festus. Farmington came in third just 4.5 points back.

Precious Selmon of Crystal City won four gold medals to rack up 40 of her team’s 44 points.

FARMINGTON

Adding to the teams’ gold medals in the two relays, Alex Rhodes won the 800m run and Jared Griffin won the discus. Second-place finishes went to  Luke Meyer in the 800m run and Trent Busenbark in the 300m hurdles.

Others placing for points for Farmington were 100m dash – 5th Chris Lutsch; 200m dash – 3rd A Huhman, 6th Tyler Tucker; 400m dash – 3rd Tyler Tucker; 1600m run – 7th Alex Cofer; 3200m run – 5th Colton Wooldridge; 110m hurdles – 4th Trent Busenbark; 300m hurdles – 8th Zach Thomas; high jump -3rd A Huhman; triple jump – 5th Robbie Craig; shot put – 5th Jared Griffin; 4x100m relay – 7th.

Farmington’s Molly Barnes won first-place in the pole vault in the girls meet.

POTOSI

Speedster Brandon Bourbon won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, and long distance runner Jacob Swearingen took first in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Damian Beacham won the 110m hurdles.

Bourbon also came in 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump. The 4x100m relay team took fourth, and the 4x200m relay team placed third.

Kevin Bach was 5th in the 400m dash, Bryan Greer was 6th in the 100m dash with eighth places won by Nick Niggemann in the 3200m run and Hunter Belfield in the shot put.

Ashley Duncan took first in the girls 400m dash.

NORTH COUNTY

The North County Raiders won the 4x100m relay, and Mike Miller added another gold medal with a first-place finish in the 400m dash. Ethan Salazar won the 300m hurdles, and Jeff Wilfong was the pole vault winner.

Steven Nowicki placed eighth in the 800m run. Salazar was third in the 110m hurdles, the 4x800m relay team placed second and the 4×400 relay team was seventh. Ty Tedder took seventh in the high jump, and Jamie Frink was sixth in the pole vault.

CENTRAL

Central’s Jermaine Jones won first place in the high jump.
