Conference honors go to Farmington

FARMINGTON — Farmington finished in first place in both the boys (188.5 pts.) and girls (181) divisions of the MAAA conference track meet on Friday. Only the Potosi Trojans (141) on the boys side and the Ste. Genevieve Hunters 147) on the girls side made it a contest for the meet’s top trophies (See full results below).

The Farmington Knights claimed first place in seven of the 18 boys events with their teams sweeping all four relay events. Andrew Huhman placed first in the 200m dash and the long jump, and Alex Rhodes came in first in the 800m run.

Potosi’s Nick Niggemann and Jacob Swearingen swapped first and second place in the 1600m and 3200m runs with Niggemann winning the longer distance. Brandon Bourbon was the ‘fastest man’, running the 100m dash in 10.59.

North County’s Ethan Salazar won both hurdles events, and Mike Miller was first in the 400m dash and the long jump. Jeff Wilfong sailed over the competition in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 14’9″, nearly two feet higher than the rest of the field.

Valle’s Bryan Kertz claimed two gold medals by winning both the shot put and the discus, and Jacob Kent of Ste. Genevieve won the triple jump.

Molly Barnes boosted Farmington’s totals on the girls side with three first-place finishes in the 400m dash, the triple jump and the pole vault. The Knightettes won six of the 18 events with Alexis Kiefer crossing the finish line first in the 800m run, and Allie Trask making a leap of 16’6.5″ in the long jump. Farmington’s 4×800 relay team also placed first.

Fredericktown’s day at the meet was a nearly take all or nothing day. Fifty of their 71 points was attributed to five first-place finishes. Kylie Oertel won both the 100m and 300m hurdles and also was first in the 200m dash. Miriah Korokis won both of the throwing events.

Ste. Genevieve placed first in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, and Nicole Rottler won the team’s third gold with a win of the 1600m run.

North County’s Chelsea Vogelsang was the top speedster with a time of 13.12 in the 100m dash, and their 4x200m relay team also placed first.

Cross country stand-out Sarah White for Potosi won the 3200m run, and Kelsey Hampton won the high jump, tying Farmington’s Morgan Ankrom at 4’8″, but winning out on least prior misses.
