Royals beat rain and Stingers for OT win
PARK HILLS — A somewhat muddy, sloppy field greeted the Park Hills Royals and Potosi Stingers on Wednesday for their Cal Ripken game, and it took extra innings to get a final decision with the Royals pulling out a 6-5 win in the bottom of the eighth.
The game was deadlocked at 3-3 after the regulation six innings, and it remained so until the top of the eighth when the Stingers scored two runs. With two outs against them, the Royals rallied to score three runs with Kolby Buckley driving in the winning run.
Nick Haney led the Royals in hitting, going 3-4 at the plate. Brandon Richardson and Jason Bader were both 2-4 and Kody Lachance hit a triple.
Jared Deal was 3-4 with a double for the Stingers. Dayton Shepard was 2-3 with a double, Dustin Douglas was 2-4 and Ethan Nixon hit a double.
The Royals (4-2) will play again tonight at the Fredericktown Flames, and the Stingers will travel to Doe Run to play the Farmington Angels.
