Outlaws defeat Giants to even record
FARMINGTON — The Farmington Outlaws scored four key runs after two outs were recorded in the first inning, and coasted to a 10-0 victory over the neighboring Farmington Giants in Bantam League action on Friday.
Garrett Holt went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and Drew Lynch singled twice for the Outlaws (5-5), who cranked out 14 total hits in the victory.
Cameron Friend tallied six strikeouts over four innings for the win, and helped himself at the plate by going 2-for-2 plus a walk. Lynch completed the shutout by working an effective fifth.
Dante Chamberlain and Jake Kennon led off the contest with back-to-back singles, but the Giants (3-7) would strand 10 runners overall, including the bases loaded in the fourth.
Friend opened the scoring when his single brought home both Hunter Pierce and Holt, and Dakota Venthun doubled the margin with his two-run bloop single to shallow right.
Alex Greco delivered a RBI double and Alex Gerstner singled in Dan Morgan, as the Outlaws tacked on four additional runs in the second for an 8-0 lead.
The Giants reached base at least twice in every frame, but faced strong defense from the Outlaws in the third. Greco made a nice catch on his knees for the first out, and third baseman Gerstner started a double play.
Kennon finished 2-for-3 to lead the Giants, and struck out five batters in the loss. Brandon Bell and Ian Asher each drew a pair of walks.
Holt capped the scoring in the bottom of the third with his RBI double to center. Blane Worley and Isaac Tinnin also singled for the Outlaws.
