Reports Animal Abuse
Dear Editor:
I wanted to write and let the public know of a disturbing incident that occurred Monday night.
My son was coming home from his girlfriend’s house at approximately 9:00 p.m., when he happened to notice a car stopped at the intersection of Lincoln Drive and Hwy OO. There were two individuals in the car and as he waited his turn to proceed, a small kitten was thrown from the car and the car drove off; heading into town. My son was right behind them and was appalled when they stopped at the next stop sign (at East Main and N Mine La Motte) and threw another kitten out the window. They then drove to the next stop sign (at College and Mine La Motte) and threw another one out. We live the next block over and he came home and told me what had happened. We immediately left and went to see if we could find the kittens, and we found one – the one that been thrown out by (Hwy OO and Lincoln) – but it was too late. The kitten had already been run over and was dead.
I went to the police station and told them what had happened and gave them the make and color of the car and a description of the two occupants. They took my name and phone number and said they would send a officer out to look.
If you saw anything or have any information, please contact the police station 783-3660.
I think it appalling that in this day and age, when we have an animal shelter in town, that these individuals would resort to methodically discarding helpless animals. They could have given them away on the Wal-mart parking lot. Or contacted the animal hospital to see if anyone was interested in adopting a kitten.
I hope the couple are caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Animal cruelty is a crime in anyone’s eyes.
