Fire destroys house trailer

BONNE TERRE — A fire destroyed a house trailer located on Quiet Lane north of Bonne Terre during the early morning hours on Monday. Big River Assistant Fire Chief Allen Stegall said the call went out at 3:45 a.m.

He said a truck was on the scene within 10 minutes.

“One end of the trailer was fully involved by the time we arrived,” Stegall said.

He said the trailer owner reported the fire and that everyone made it out without injury.

Even though the department was able to put out the fire without incident, Stegall said the home is most likely a total loss.

On Tuesday afternoon, firefighters were also called to a report of smoke in a building at the Eastern Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center in Bonne Terre.

According to Corrections spokesperson and firefighters, lint in a dryer caught on fire, causing a building to fill up with smoke. A minimum security housing unit was relocated while the smoke was cleared.
