Ten year olds sweep districts, heading to state

UNION — The Mineral Area 10-year old All-Stars (MABA) played their entire Babe Ruth district tournament against their host Union with a game on Thursday and on Friday. That’s all that was needed as they swept the event in two games.

MABA jumped on Union pitching from the start of game one posting 10 runs of their 12-2 win in the first two innings. Pitcher Brendan Wagner controlled Union’s offense for the win.

Hitting prowess was shared by Gunner Labrot, Lucas Manion and Brayden Moon who were all 3-3 in the game. Moon hit one triple, Labrot one double, and Manion and Moon had three RBI each. Blake Barlow was 2-3 with both hits going for doubles.

Union gave the MABA nine all they could handle in game two on Friday. It came down to a game-winning hit by Labrot in the sixth inning. MABA utilized four pitchers with Brayden Rawson starting things off with two scoreless innings. Labrot was the last pitcher on the mound for the win.

Labrot made it a perfect hitting tournament with his second 3-3 performance with the bat. Jacob Meinershagen and Ryan Propst were both 2-3, Tappan Westbrook and Wagner was 1-2, Parker Forshee finished 1-3 and Brandon Winder was 1-4.

MABA’s 10-year-olds will now play in the state tournament at Sikeston starting on Thursday.
