Youth Volunteers Help Seniors

Youth volunteers at the Park Hills Senior Center this summer include: (left to right front) Lane Wideman, Abrie Wideman, Tiffany Spanenberg, Libby Slinkard, Paige Slinkard, Lauren Glatczak, Olivia Simpson, Isaiah Wideman, Aimee Wideman and Danny Wideman; (left to right rear) Abby Stewart, Laura Spanenberg, Abby Simpson, Sam Buxton, Anna Slinkard, Mary Looney, Sarah O’Donnell, Sean O’Donnell and Sandy O’Donnell. The 18 school-age volunteers in kindergarten through sixth grade worked at least one day a week this summer delivering meals or packing the meals for delivery. Some did both. Parents and an aunt drove the youth on home delivery routes. Sharo Shirshekan donated passes to the Bonne Terre Fun Center, pizza and soda to thank the volunteers. New Era Bank in Park Hills donated to the Volunteers on Vacation to help the senior center give each child a gift card. This was the third year children have stepped in to give the regular home delivery drivers a break. “These were very kind, dedicated kids,” Senior Center Director Holly Buxton said. –  Submitted photo
