Cadet man charged with assault
A Cadet man has been charged with first-degree assault after police say he kicked and struck a man, and a woman has been accused of assaulting an officer in an unrelated case.
James E. Graham, 43, has been charged with a Class A felony for assault. His bond was set at $50,000.
According to a probable cause statement, Potosi Police Officer Dan Curtis responded to a disturbance last week at a home on Missouri Street. He said a man was flown to a hospital in St. Louis for severe head trauma that Graham caused.
If convicted, Graham could be sentenced to up to 30 years or life in prison.
In another case, Virginia E. Tomich, 38, of Mineral Point, was charged with misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor attempted escape from custody.
According to the charges, a deputy went to her home because the woman was reportedly suicidal.
The deputy said she took off running while he was trying to speak with her. Worried that she would hurt herself, the deputy went after her. He said she spit on him as he put her in handcuffs and then kicked the patrol car in an attempt to get out.
He said at the county jail, she slipped her handcuffs off and took off running out the door in an attempt to flee.
