Desloge Labor Day parade lineup changes
DESLOGE — Due to the construction of Desloge’s new soccer field the lineup procedure for the Desloge Labor Day parade has changed. Desloge Fire Chief Larry Gremminger is spearheading this year’s parade. He said the parade lineup will get under way at 7 a.m. Sept. 7 behind the North County Middle School.
“The actual parade will begin at 9 a.m.,” Gremminger said. “In previous years we used the area where the soccer field is now located. We won’t be able to do that this year. That’s the biggest change to the parade.”
Gremminger said all labor groups, parade entries on horseback and antique tractors will need to report to the North County Intermediate School on Elm Street, formerly Cantwell Elementary.
“We will have firefighters there who will direct them (parade entries) as to where they need to go,” he said. We need those three groups to go to the intermediate school instead of the middle school.”
Gremminger said the purpose of the Labor Day festivities is to honor the workforce.
“This year we are asking our labor groups not to bring any large scale construction equipment,” he said. “With the changes that are being made, we don’t want it any more complicated than it has to be.”
Anyone interested in entering the parade can contact Gremminger at 573-431-4493 or can contact the Desloge Chamber of Commerce office. Entries will be accepted for the parade up through Sept. 2.
