Planning a Homecoming golden anniversary
A group met Tuesday evening for the first organizational meeting to discuss ways to mark the 50th anniversary of Farmington homecoming as it is known today.
“We wanted to do something for the 50th year of homecoming,” said Ardie Henson, one of the organizers.
The group plans to showcase the past homecoming queens, first football team and the teams throughout the years. They’re looking for former cheerleaders, band members and others who were involved in the football games as part of the “Golden Celebration.”
Henson added that all past alumni can consider this an invitation to join in for next year’s festivities.
All alumni of FHS are invited to help plan next year’s event. Organizers are asking former sports players, band and band auxiliary members, cheerleaders and pep club, and past homecoming queens to give their input on the celebration.
The date for next year’s homecoming will not be known until February when district placements are announced. Farmington Athletic Director Pat Burns said there will be at least five home games next year.
The group plans to hold a celebration for homecoming night specfically and include students from the past and present. The group also discussed a commemorative brochure to highlight homecoming queens, football players and cheerleaders from the last 50 years.
The next planning meeting is set for Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Farmington High School cafeteria.
