Grants available for outdoor recreation projects

JEFFERSON CITY — The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has applications available for the federally funded Land and Water Conservation Fund grants to help finance outdoor recreation projects.

All local governments and public school districts are eligible for the federal funds, which are made available through the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service. Projects may be for the development or renovation of outdoor recreational facilities, or for acquisition of park land. A 55 percent match is required.

Applications must be postmarked by Nov. 23. An estimated $500,000 is expected to be awarded in the fiscal year 2010 cycle.

In Missouri, the DNR administers the grant program. Electronic versions of the applications are available on the Department’s Web page at http://www.mostateparks.com/grantinfo.htm.
