Hunters win ‘Battle of the City’ over Valle
STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Hunters and Valle Lady Warriors are friend with each other, that is, off the court, but then they meet on the volleyball court, each is trying to gain bragging rights for the best in the city. This year the Hunters claimed the rights with a 25-18, 25-21 win.
Liz Huck led the Hunters in kills with eight and Anna Sedgwick and Elle Korenak nailed down another seven each. Kristen Faulkner led in assists with 11, Emily Schwent had six and Sarah Steagall made five.
Valle (13-8) was led in digs with 14 by Hannah Kuenzel. Taylor Beyatte served four points with two going for aces.
Ste. Genevieve (15-9) plays today in an MAAA Large-School Conference showdown at Farmington, both teams are 3-0 in conference play.
Arcadia Valley 2, Potosi 0
ARCADIA — The Arcadia Valley Tigers, a small-school team in the MAAA Conference, defeated the Potosi Lady Trojans, a large-school team, on Monday in straight games 25-17, 25-22.
Madison Mason and Abby St. Clair led the Lady Tigers attacking game with eight kills apiece. Mason and Nikki Bone had nine digs each and Allie Yates had eight. Candis Kirby took care of her job with 12 assists, and St. Clair had four blocks.
Jordan Harbison made 14 assists for Potosi. Kelsey Hampton made seven kills, Ashley Thompson made six kills and Melinda Bust had five.
Arcadia Valley (6-13-4) will travel to West County today and Potosi (10-10-1) will be home to face Fredericktown this evening.
Perryville 2, Central 0
PERRYVILLE — The Central Lady Rebels lost to the Perryville Lady Pirates on Monday in a two-game match, 25-19, 25-15.
Jaycee Haus and Danielle Hughes both had seven kills each. Liz Hartupee made 10 digs, Haus had seven and Alicia Sebastian had six. Tori Boyer made 13 assists for Central’s hitters.
Central 12-10-2 will host North County this evening.
Valley 2, South Iron 0
CALEDONIA — The Valley Lady Vikings picked up their fourth win of the season beating the South Iron Lady Panthers 25-21, 25-19.
Katie Halbert served 14 points in the game, Jessica Crocker made 10 kills, and Lora Beth Ward had seven kills.
Kaitlin Holbert made nine assists and Halbert made seven. Megan Midgett led in digs with four.
Valley (4-15) will host Kingston for their next match.
Lesterville 2, West County 0
LEADWOOD — The West County Lady Bulldogs played volleyball with a depleted roster against the Lesterville Lady Bearcats on Monday due to several players being out for illness. Lesterville won the match 25-12, 25-8.
Felicia Crick served five of West County’s points and Rikki Lashley and Kayla Johnston served four each. Crick also made six assists and three digs. Lashley had four kills and six digs, and Keila Byers made two kills.
West County (6-12) will host Arcadia Valley this afternoon in conference action.
Jackson 2, Fredericktown 0
JACKSON — The Fredericktown Lady Cats could not keep their composure against the Jackson Lady Indians and Jackson dominated for a 25-15, 25-17 win.
Lauren Henderson made four stuff blocks, nine digs and five kills to pace the Lady Cats. Sam Coonce and Chelsea Mills both made three kills. Courtney Tinnin led in assists with six and Melia Fall had five.
Fredericktown (12-9-3) will travel to Potosi this evening for a conference showdown.
St. Clair 2, Kingston 0
ST. CLAIR — The Kingston Lady Cougars (10-13) gave the St. Clair Lady Bulldogs a run for their money on Monday. The result was a 25-20, 25-19 for the Lady Bulldogs.
Tiffany Yarbrough served three aces for the Lady Cougars, and Jacee Missey made three kills. Kara Missey and Lacey Pashia stood strong on defense with one block apiece and Kelsey Nelson brought up five digs. Misty Guenther made three assists.
Kingston will travel to Valley this evening for a conference match.
