By the way…

Jeanie Whitmer

Junior is walking again and improving in every way. It has to be God who is responsible for this and I thank Him. Daughter Debbie is still having problems with her eye and has an appointment for another specialist to look at it.

On Friday I went to the Bonne Terre Lead Mine to take the tour with Joey and the other second graders. It was interesting, even though the walking conditions are somewhat rough. We all made the tour without mishap, but I have to say the 3 steep flights of stairs at the end of the tour were a bit of a strain for me, although Joey was still pretty gung ho. Come Saturday and my legs were so sore I could hardly walk, and getting out of a chair was almost impossible. I can’t wait to find out where we’ll be going next time (I hope if there are different levels involved, there will be an elevator).

On Sunday Sarah and Mae Lou came down from Pevely to meet Debbie, Joey and me at church. Later we went out for dinner, and I thought it such a blessing to be out with my daughter, grandson, grand-daughter, and great grand-daughter. I felt a bit like Miss Ellie, except we were in a restaurant instead of the dining room at South Fork. I felt just as rich as she was supposed to be. Is there anything more precious than family?

The day Brother Carl preached a scary sermon about the choice the lies before us; and that is whether we are bound for Heaven or Hell. Some folks don’t want to talk about it, or even think about such a thing as Hell, but nevertheless, the Bible teaches clearly that there are only 2 destinations offered and if you aren’t going to one, you can only be headed for the other one. The consequences are so drastic that nobody should take the choice lightly. Before deciding a person needs to find out if this information is true and why so many people believe that it is. tIt’s all written down in black and white, and the person who looks in the Bible, really seeking to know God, will find himself experiencing things that are too complex to be captured on mere paper. Those things can only be imparted to your heart and mind by the Living God. As Brother Carl says, it doesn’t matter if your Grandmother started the church, or your Daddy was a preacher for 70 years. It doesn’t matter if your name was added to roll the day you were born. What matters, and the only way to reach Heaven, is for you to know the son of God and for Him to know you. You have to want to belong to Him and be obedient to Him. There is no other way. There is no light except for Him, for He is The Light, and every person who already belongs to Him will be glad to share the Light with you. He is the way, the Truth and the life, the Author and Finisher of our faith. You read the fine print on contracts and policies, sometimes seeking advice of experts before you buy. It is my prayer that everyone who has not yet made a conscious decision about where he or she wants to spend eternity, will look into the Word of God, and ask Him to help you understand what you need to know to get started in a new life with Him. You don’t have to but any of this, because it is free for the taking. And, if you decide not to partake, at least you will have made an informed decision about where you want to spend eternity.

The October 17, Madison County Singing Convention will not be held at my home Rather, it will be at the Church of God of Prophecy    (corner of High and Franklin). Refreshments after singing. Starts at 6:00 p.m.
