Reverend William “”Bill”” Edward Davis

INDEPENDENCE, MO. — Reverend William “Bill” Edward Davis, age 70, of Independence, Kansas died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas.

Rev. William “Bill” Edward Davis was born February 7, 1939 in Ishmal, Missouri to Hadley and Joyce (Mason) Davis. He grew up in Salem, Missouri and attended schools in Salem, Missouri. In 1956 William entered the United States Army and served in Japan, he was honorable discharged in 1959.

Reverend William “Bill” Edward Davis married Mamie Skaggs on October 3, 1959 in Valles Mines, Missouri where they made their home. Rev. William “Bill” Edward Davis was a minister for 34 years in New Mexico, Louisiana, Missouri, Kansas, Texas and Arkansas. He has been the pastor of the Independence Church of God for the last 16 years which is affiliated with the Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee. Bill also worked for seven years for Russell Denina Trucking as a Truck Driver, was the chaplain for the Independence Rural Fire Department for 10 years, also worked on Kenny Davis Farms and Gowen Logging Company.

Survivors include his wife Mamie of the home; one son William Shawn and wife Bobbie Jo Davis of Independence, Kansas; two daughters Angela and husband Darrell King of Dearing, Kansas; and Kelli and husband Chad Smith of Independence, Kansas; step mother Pauline Davis of Salem, Missouri; one brother Dennis Halbrook of Steelville, Missouri; one step brother Charles Halbrook of Rolla, Missouri; six grandchildren Samuel King, Adam King, Shyanne Davis, Jordan Mason, Dayton Davis, and Addison Davis; one aunt Betty Mason of Texas and several close friends.

Memorial Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Bishop Bob Maggard officiating. Visitation hours will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Local Visitation hours will  be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at the C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Hall Cemetery.
