A Marble Hill man has been charged with assault after police say he stabbed a man in Madison County last week.

Jason Alan Starkey, 33, of Marble Hill, has been charged in Madison County with the Class A felony of first-degree assault. His bond has been set at $75,000.

The charge stems from an altercation on Nov. 11 where police say Starkey stabbed a man in the lower stomach.

According to the probable cause statement, witnesses called police after a man was stabbed in his stomach while at the Castor River bridge on Route DD. The man was taken to Madison County Medical Center and then to Mineral Area Regional Medical Center for emergency surgery. His current condition is not known.

Witnesses said Starkey, three adults and a child left in a white truck after the stabbing.

A witness said she saw an altercation between Starkey and the man. She said after the altercation, Starkey left and that is when she and her husband noticed the man was bleeding. She and her husband took the man to the hospital.

Charges have not been filed against the three adults who left with Starkey.
