Red Wing shifting production to Potosi facility
Red Wing is closing a Kentucky facility and eliminating one shift at its Minnesota facility to “right-size” its operation. This will result in a layoff of about 200 employees in all.
The intent is to continue manufacturing the same volume of footwear out of two facilities instead of three.
The Potosi plant will be increasing production as a result of these changes. It will likely hire additional people at some point during the year.
Company officials said they are optimistic that some of the Minnesota layoffs can be avoided through voluntary retirement benefits proposed by the company.
Red Wing manufactures five product lines, Red Wing Shoes, Carhartt Footwear, Irish Setter, Vasque and WORX.
They are based in Minnesota.
