Hedrick charged with first-degree murder

A Potosi man has been charged in connection with the stabbing death of 27-year-old James Kissell.

Waylon Ray Hedrick, 24, was arrested and charged in Madison County with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

He is currently being held at the Madison County Jail. Bond is set at $750,000.

The fatal stabbing occurred Monday night in Fredericktown.

“The Fredericktown Police Department responded to a reported stabbing at 308 Locust Street,” said Fredericktown Police Captain Ken Tomlinson. “When police arrived they found 27-year-old James Kissell had been severely stabbed several times.

“Emergency personal arrived on scene and made every effort to save Kissell but he succumbed to his injuries at Madison Medical Center at (11:12 p.m.).”

Tomlinson said the Fredericktown Police Department doesn’t have a motive at this point. He also would not say if Hedrick has confessed to the murder.
