Salvation Army needs bell ringers

The Washington County Unit of the Salvation Army is in dire need of volunteers to help with their Bell Ringing Campaign which will continue through Christmas Eve.

This campaign will raise money for families in Washington County to be used throughout the coming year. For every dollar put in the kettles, 85 percent of that dollar is used for medicine, deposits, medical transportation, rent, burn outs and other emergencies for families in Washington County when funding is available. Ten percent of that dollar is used for national disasters and 4 percent of that dollar is used for operating costs.

The money is not used for Christmas since there are other agencies doing toys and food, but is used through the next year for other emergencies.

If you can spare just two hours a week to volunteer to ring the bell, call Terrisa at 573-438-8603 to schedule your time.

The Salvation Army is well known for its red kettles and friendly Bell Ringers during the holiday season each year. Bell Ringers will be at the Potosi Walmart at various times until Dec. 24
