Upcoming local sports events
Local sports events will be announced in the Daily Journal on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday for two weeks preceding the event. Please send an announcement of your upcoming event to the sports department no sooner than three weeks before the event or its registration deadline by either phone (573) 431-2010, FAX (573) 431-7640 or drop it off by person at the Daily Journal office in Park Hills.
10-U Softball Meeting — Feb. 28
There will be a softball meeting at the North County Middle School gym on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. for players 10 and under. Interested persons may call (573) 915-4800.
Fusion Try-outs — Mar. 3
The Fusion, a MAFPL fast-pitch softball team for girls ages 10 and under, will have an informational meeting and try-outs on March 3 at 6 p.m. in the Washington-Franklin gym. Players interested should be born in 1999 or 2000 and should bring a glove for the tryouts. For information call Kris Tucker at (573) 631-2727.
Explosion Sign-ups — Mar. 4
Anyone interested in playing baseball this summer for the Bonne Terre Explosion, a MACRBA 7-9 year old team, should call Ryan Murphy at (573) 631-5182 or Rick Daugherty at (573) 760-4932.
Angels Try-outs — Mar. 6
Baseball tryouts for the Farmington Angels will be held on March 6th at 4 p.m. at the Doe Run ballfield for baseball players ages 10-12. For information call Mike Hartupee at 701-4320.
Giants Try-outs — Mar. 6
Tryouts for the Farmington Baseball Giants, a MACRBA 7-9 yr. old team, will be held on March 6 at 2 p.m. behind Washington School at Maple and Franklin Streets.
Softball League Reg. — Mar. 15
Registration for team wishing to play softball this summer in the Parks Hills Leagues is now ongoing at the Park Hills City Hall. The Men’s league (12 teams) will play on Mondays and Wednesdays with an entry fee of $255, and the Church league (10 teams) will play on Fridays with an entry fee of $200. Entry fees include a dozen softballs. Registration ends at 5 p.m. on March 15 or sooner if the league is full. For more information call the Parks and Recreation Department at 431-0478.
