Azalea Festival just seven weeks away
The 48th Annual Azalea Festival will be here before you now it.
The Azalea Festival Board has been meeting regularly this month and will be working feverishly in these final weeks leading to the festival.
The board met, Thursday, March 11. The 2010 Azalea Festival theme has been selected. It is “The Best of Hollywood.”
As always, the GFWC Friday Club will present the Prince and Princess Pageant, Thursday, May 6. The carnival will open Friday afternoon, and the Azalea Queen pageant will be Friday evening. The Pageant theme is: “Hollywood Nights.”
Numerous activites and all kinds of live entertainment will take place thoughout the weekend. The Parade on Wheels will be back again this year, and the Chamber of Commerce is planning a Battle of the Bands. The Democrat News will provide updates on many more of the activities planned in the coming weeks.
The annual Azalea Festival parade will again be on Sunday afternoon, May 9. Along with the judged float contest during the parade, there will be a new contest. Individuals or groups are being asked to decorate their Golf Carts to be judged similarly to, but separately from, the floats.
Also, with the parade falling on Mothers Day, the Azalea Board has decided to have a “Best of the Best Mother” contest. If you think you have the Best of the Best Mother, the Aazalea Board wants to hear your story. You need to tell your story about your mother, and why she is the “Best of the Best.” The winner of this contest will be the Grand Marshall of the 2010 Azalea Parade.
