Potosi superintendent freezes budget

Due to shortfalls in state revenue, the budget for the Potosi R-3 School District is being frozen. Superintendent Randy Davis sent out a memo freezing the current fiscal year budget effective March 31.

He described state funding for fiscal year 2011 as being in crisis mode and said he has been informed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that money will be withheld from the current fiscal year budget as well.

He warned the district may have to make difficult and unpopular decisions in 2012 if the economy doesn’t pick up, but added that since the district has been frugal the past seven years Potosi R-3 is more prepared for the crisis than some districts. That should give the board additional time to review its options as fully as possible.
