Spill poses no harm

The Bonne Terre police and fire departments investigated a substance that appeared to be leaking from a Cal-Maine tank late Tuesday afternoon.

The substance was leaking from a tank that company representatives thought had long been empty. The odorous substance leaked across the parking lot of the company, which is between the depot and the baseball fields, into a drainage ditch.

With the help of the Department of Natural Resources, officials determined the substance was a sulfur based amino acid, which posed no harm. DNR said the substance could be scooped up and taken to a regular landfill.
