Sunday events upgraded for Country Days

While memories of Country Days often center on funnel cakes, big name concerts and fun, many memories are made while families share time together.

In celebration of the family, the Farmington Chamber of Commerce has announced that Sunday, June 6, will be “Faith and Family Sunday” with a variety of events to bring families together.

“One of the first events that sets the tone for Country Days every year is the KREI/Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, and it is only fitting that we close our annual festival with events that continue in that tone,” said Doug McDermott, executive director of the Farmington Chamber of Commerce.

McDermott said the day will begin at 8 a.m. with the return of Church in the Parkland with Final Phaze Music Ministries. The day will end with two new concerts.

“We’re so excited to have them again this year,” McDermott said. “They bring great energy and music to start Sunday morning.”

The day will end with high energy as Christian contemporary bands Parallax View and Awakening will perform from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The concerts will be sponsored by Butterfield Gardens 55+ active living community.

Parallax View released their first independent demo album in 2007, and their new album, “All the World,” has been released on iTunes and is available at The Oasis Christian Bookstore.

Awakening, whose members are from Southeast Missouri, shares a similar musical style and combines both praise and contemplative songs that target a variety of ages and backgrounds.

McDermott said visitors on Sunday will also be able to enjoy the food and rides that are also a part of Country Days each year.

“Sunday is great for the family, because special “all you can ride” bracelets are available for purchase which allow unlimited rides for children of all ages,” McDermott said.

In addition, Dairy Queen will once again provide ice cream for visitors in Long Park on Sunday afternoon.
