Sheriff’s department receives grant for car camera

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department has received a grant for $4,970.00 to purchase one Digital Ally 500 Plus In Car Camera for one of their fleet cars. This grant was made possible through highway safety funds of the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety.

Lt. Michael Gum of the Washington County Sheriff’s office was very appreciative of the grant to help with new equipment. “It has been a great asset to our department for DWI enforcement,” he said.  “It is a great tool and has already been used several times for court proceedings,” said Gum.

South Central Regional Coordinator, Kelly Martin, noted that her region was placing an increased emphasis on law enforcement grants this fiscal year. “Purchases such as this in car camera help to aid in the law enforcement efforts to keep drunk drivers off of our roadways. Specialized equipment and increased enforcement will help to make Missouri’s roadways safer,” said Martin.
