Summer fun time is here again
PARK HILLS — It’s summer fun time again, and College for Kids, a summer enrichment program at Mineral Area College, is ready to provide it. College for Kids begins July 5 and runs through July 29, and is for children in grades kindergarten through 8th grade.
Kids ready to start kindergarten through second grade can enjoy Twist That Fairytale taught by Morgan Straughan, a student at Central Methodist University majoring in education. Twist That Fairytale will introduce children to the newer versions of favorite fairytales. Then kids will bring the stories to life with crafts, food, and games.
Twist That Fairytale begins July 5, with a second session and July 19.
Morgan is also teaching American Girl’s Cooking Party for grades 3-5.
Using the book series as a starting point, Morgan will guide her students through cooking authentic meals and snacks from four time periods — Colonial, Pioneer, Victorian, and World War II. American Girl’s Cooking Party begins July 12.
Other classes taught by Morgan Straughan include Konnichiwa Japan, July 5 and July 26; Kid Crafters, July 12; Percy Jackson’s Mythology, July 19 for grades 3-4 and July 26 for grades 5-6.
Jennifer Koester McPhail is another new CFK teacher this year. A native of Park Hills, Jennifer has taught for eight years in elementary schools on the island of St. Croix and in Houston, Texas.
Jennifer will be using her knowledge of and experiences in St. Croix, Germany, and Paris, France, in The Amazing Race, a class for kids in grades 4-6. Children will be experiencing these locations through games and crafts. The Amazing Race begins July 12 for grades 4-6 and July 26 for grades 1-3.
Jennifer will also be teaching Mineral Area’s Got Talent. In this class, kids explore the gifts and talents that stars like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber have accumulated, as well as discovering the artist within themselves. Mineral Area’s Got Talent begins July 5 for grades 4-6 and July 12 for grades 1-3.
Science for Kids (grades 1-3) will allow children to do simple experiments like dissecting a diaper. Other activities will broaden their knowledge of the human body. Science for Kids begins July 19.
Other classes taught by Jennifer Koester McPhail are Mystery Madness: Zonks! Which begins July 5 for grades 3-6 and July 19 grades 4-6; and Awesome Anatomy for grades 4-6 beginning July 26.
