Scott City late rally too much for Hunters

SCOTT CITY — The Ste. Genevieve Hunters matched the Scott City Lady Rams run for run for five innings of their sotftball game on Monday, but a sixth inning surge of four runs went unanswered in the Hunters’ last at-bats and the Lady Rams came away with a 6-2 win.

Becky Hermann drove in the first run of the game with a triple to score Lauren Kemper in the third inning. Scott City matched the run in the bottom of the third for the first of two ties in the game.

The second tie was made by the Hunters. The Lady Rams scored a run in the fourth inning, and a runner caught trying to score on a passed ball by catcher Erica Burney left it at one.

It would take two more innings before the Hunters could retaliate, but in the top of the sixth they were able to tie the score up again. It was Natalie Diesel who came up with the big hit. Diesel hit a double to drive in Hermann, who had reached on a single.

Hermann led the team in hitting with three of the Hunters’ six hits. Scott City put together a three-hit inning and took advantage of a hit batter and the Hunters only error to post four runs in the bottom of the sixth which would stand as the winning margin.

Megan Weiler pitched the whole game allowing seven hits, five walks, and two hit batters. She struck out three.

Ste. Genevieve (4-8) hosts Fredericktown this afternoon.
