Train strikes tow truck

A tow truck removing a vehicle from an earlier accident was totaled when it was struck by a train late Saturday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the tow truck operated by Randall Elliott of Elliott’s Towing of Potosi was on Upper Blackwell Road in northern St. Francois County removing a vehicle from a previous accident. 

The operator and emergency personnel on the scene were unable to get the tow truck, a 2003 Chevrolet C4500 truck, moved before a Union Pacific train came through on the railroad tracks. No one was injured in the accident or the earlier accident. 

The railroad crossing was a standard crossing with no warning lights or bells. 

The accident was reported at 9:19 p.m.

Two Glenwood, Ark., residents were seriously injured Sunday when their 2005 Chevrolet Malibu overturned in St. Francois County.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, David Oberhoffer, 52, was westbound on Route T at 2:25 a.m. when his vehicle went off the right side of the road and overturned, west of Chaffin Road.

Oberhoffer and passenger Sylvia S. Oberhoffer, 54, were taken by ambulance to Parkland Health Center. Neither had been wearing seat belts.

Damage to the Malibu was listed as total.

A Cadet woman was seriously injured Sunday when the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero in which she was riding went off the right side of the road and struck two trees in Washington County.

According to Highway Patrol reports, the accident occurred at 2:40 a.m. in the southbound lane of Missouri 21, south of Cyclone Road. According to the reports, the driver was unknown. 

Passenger Janelle L. Wilkerson, 29, was flown by air ambulance to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur. She had not been wearing a seat belt.

Damage to the Oldsmobile was listed as total

Two men were seriously injured Saturday when their 1984 Ford Ranger went off the road, struck a utility pole and overturned in Washington County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 11:15 p.m. in the eastbound lane of Route C, 1.3 miles west of Route JJ.

Driver Jason L. Turntine, 28, of Irondale, and passenger Jason L. Buffington, 30, of Belleview, were flown by air ambulance to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur. Neither had been wearing a seat belt.

Damage to the Ford was listed as total.

One man and four teenagers, including one from Bonne Terre, received minor injuries Sunday when their 2005 Chevrolet ran off the side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned in Iron County.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Annapolis resident Joseph M. Herren, 22, was northbound on Missouri 49 at 6:06 a.m. when the accident occurred, 1 mile north of Annapolis.

Herren and passengers Sierra A. Thomas, 14 of Bonne Terre; Stephanie L. Polk, 16, and Bryce L. Deboard, 16, both of Des Arc; and Bethany L. Deboard, 16, of Annapolis all were taken by ambulance to Iron County Hospital. None had been wearing a seat belt.

Damage to the vehicle was listed as total.

A Mineral Point woman was injured in an accident in Washington County early Saturday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Heather G. Meyer, 40, received moderate injuries and was taken to Washington County Hospital.

The report indicates an unidentified driver was driving a 1999 GMC Envoy south on Robart Road near Route E when it went off the roadway and struck an embankment. Meyer was a passenger. The patrol, at this time, has not been able to determine the identity of the driver.

The accident was reported at 1:05 a.m.

Two people were injured in an accident on Highway 8 and Route P Friday night.

According to the patrol, Jacob I. Lawson, 24, and Jennifer N. Lawson, 18, received minor injuries and were taken to Mineral Area Regional Medical Center.

Reports indicate Margaret Brewer of Park Hills was driving a 1988 Chevrolet 1500 south on Route P when she failed to yield to Jacob Lawson’s 1996 Buick Park Avenue which was traveling east on Highway 8. Brewer was not injured.

The accident was reported at 7:50 p.m.
